Every UFC champion gets a certain level of respect, especially if they beat a long time champion in becoming one. At least everybody that’s not Alexander Volkanovski does. The only time I see his name brought up is when people debate who won the fight between him and Max Holloway, and most people seem to be against him even in that case.

There are a couple factors involved. The first is the one that I just mentioned. Most people believe that Max won that fight, which is fair enough. I thought Alex won, but that’s not the point. People act like it was a blowout for Max, when that decision clearly could have gone either way. Oh and people, are we just going to forget that they had another fight. Yeah, and guess who won, Alexander Volkanovski. Holloway was on a 13 fight win streak and Volk dethroned him. Let’s start giving him some respect.

My mom being an Aussie, I know that Australian’s are generally very laid back, nice people. Like it or not, in the fight world, that can set you back sometimes. Alex doesn’t talk. He fights and then stays out of the media. As a result, he doesn’t get the attention that he deserves. The man is 22-1, 9-0 in the UFC and a champion. If he had the personality of a Conor Mcgregor, or an Israel Adesanya, believe me he would be a massive topic.

At the end of the day, as far as what I’ve seen on social media and through conversations with people, Volkanovski does not get the respect he deserves. Alexander Volkanovski is really good, and he deserves to be a UFC champion.
