The UFC matchmakers have been on a roll as of late, offering us yet another potential fire fight for this fall, this time between BJJ sensation, Charles Oliveira and the streaking Beneil Dariush.

Recent rumors arose of a lightweight bout between Islam Makchaev and Charles Oliveira being in the works came from sports reporter, Igor Lazorin, however this ‘budget’ Tony vs Khabib matchup did not come into fruition due to unknown reasons.

MMA Junkie’s John Morgan spoke with Dariush today about the matchup.

“I’m stuck in this weird limbo place” said Dariush. “I don’t know if it’s happening or if not’s happening, but supposedly I’ll get an answer in the next couple of days.”

The UFC has yet to officially announce Oliveira vs Dariush, however sources tell MMA Island that the fight is verbally agreed for the date of October 3rd.

“I love that fight. I think Charles is a great fighter, he’s so well rounded and what an opportunity, I’ve been waiting to fight someone in the top 10 and he’s #6 I believe. This is incredible for me.”

The Iranian-born fighter, Dariush is riding a 5 fight winning streak, with 4 of those coming by way of finish. A win over Oliveira would launch him to the top of the rankings, with 155’s elite.

“Do Bronxs” on the other hand, is coming off a 7 fight finish win streak, 5 wins by submission and 2 by (T)KO. His latest win came against the highly touted Kevin Lee, when he finished him by a guillotine choke.

This battle of top contenders will likely launch them into a title eliminator bout with a top 5 fighter in the near future.
