The UFC’s latest Irish signing Dean Barry will face Mike ‘The Truth’ Jackson in his first fight for the promotion, MMA Island can reveal.

The Dubliner, who trains out of Owen Roddy’s SBG Charlestown, will face Jackson on a Fight Night card January 20th, ahead of Conor McGregor’s return against Dustin Poirier three nights later.

Fight fans will recall Mike Jackson as the man who ended CM Punk’s short-lived UFC career with a brutal unanimous decision victory at UFC 225 in 2018.

MMA Island has confirmed that the bout will take place at 170 lbs, and will be the first on a multi-fight deal for Irishman Barry, who is 3-1 in his pro career and recently welcomed a baby daughter into his family.

Barry’s most recent victory came at UAE Warriors in September when he made short work of Abdulla Al Bousheiri with a first round finish.

Jackson hasn’t fought inside the octagon since going 1-1 in his bout with Punk, and had also amassed a 4-0 professional boxing record. He is an established combat sports photographer and podcast host.

Promoter Dana White was annoyed by Jackson’s performance against Punk, where despite obliterating the Chicago native in all facets of the fight, ‘The Truth’ appeared to showboat instead of taking on the bout. At one point there were rumors of a bout between Jackson and Bellator prospect Aaron Chalmers, but the UFC did not release him from his contract.

Dean Barry v Mike Jackson will take place on January 20th. The current card, headlined by Leon Edwards vs Khamzat Chimaev, is as follows:

Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev

Michael Chiesa vs. Neil Magny

Viviane Araujo vs. Roxanne Modafferi

Tyson Nam vs. Matt Schnell

Dean Barry vs. Mike Jackson

Francisco Figueredo vs. Jerome Rivera
