Short notice? That’s no problem for two top-15 welterweights.
Just 11 days after his last fight, Daniel Rodriguez has been booked to fight in Las Vegas once again. ‘D-Rod’ is slated to take on Neil Magny at a UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 15, multiple sources confirmed to MMA Island on Wednesday.
Rodriguez seems to be making up for lost time, getting another fight in 2022 after he was sidelined with injuries about a year. Returning from the long lay-off, the 35 year-old originally accepted a short-notice bout against Kevin Holland at UFC 279, but he’d end up meeting Li Jingliang after the main card was shuffled the day before the fight.
‘D-Rod’ would go the distance with Jingliang and picked up a split decision win. The victory would bring Rodriguez into the rankings at #14 and also a fight with fellow contender Neil Magny.
Magny set his sights on Rodriguez shortly after his win at UFC 279. Rodriguez would insist on rematching Jingliang because of the controversial scorecards from the judges and this would catch Magny’s eye.
“Or move on to the next one,” Magny said of Rodriguez wanting to fight ‘The Leech’ again. “I’m trying to fight asap!”
It looks like ‘The Haitian Sensation’ got his wish after all, lining up the fight just a few weeks out.
The #14 ranked Magny is coming off a submission loss to the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov back in June. He’ll look to get back in the win column against the highly-touted ‘D-Rod’.
