The fight was a highly anticipated one, between two striking specialists. Both are known for the devastating power in their kicks. Barboza was coming off a bizarre but violent knockout of Shane Burgos. Meanwhile Chikadze was riding the wave off his body-kick KO of Cub Swanson.

The fight was pretty competitive up till the finishing sequence from the Georgian Chikadze. Round 1 was pretty even, with both feeling each other and trading shots in a chess match. Giga won the round by turning up the pressure towards the end. Barboza seemed to be making a small comeback of sorts in the second, by landing a few good calf kicks and maintaining pressure. He used his boxing effectively, and although Chikadze did some good work to the body and the head, the round definitely was a better one for the Brazilian.

The finish came in the third. Chikadze landed a good knee to the body and followed it up with a cracking right cross. Barboza was wobbled and hurt and Chikadze wasted no time in pressuring on the feet. As the fight went to the ground, Chikadze swarmed the Brazilian with shots and even attempted an unsuccessful D’arce Choke. However, Barboza was too badly damaged and referee Jason Herzog stopped the fight when he got knocked down for the second time.

The finish came in, officially 1 minute and 33 seconds into the round. Chikadze was grateful and humble after the fight, giving Barboza credit for being a tough opponent. He also showered praise on his family and stated how happy and at-home he was while fighting
