UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev has expressed his desire to fight Tony Ferguson, following his dominant victory over Drew Dober at UFC 259.
The 31-year-old submitted Dober with an arm-triangle choke in the third round improving his record to 19-1, in what was his first fight since September 2019.
The Russian is a long-time teammate of former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had been slated to face Ferguson on multiple occasions before his retirement.
This has created a great rivalry between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov despite a fight never materialising, leading to Makhachev wanting to settle the conflict.
“My dream fight is Tony Ferguson.” Machachev said. “That’s my dream fight. I just want to make him retire. He talks too much. Khabib is retired, now he keeps pressuring him, for what? I’m here, I have a 7-fight win streak, make this happen.”
Makhachev is currently ranked at number 14 in the lightweight division but may move up following his victory, Ferguson is number five but is on a two-fight skid.
