There appears to be some real bad blood between Jake Paul and Ben Askren ahead of their April 17th boxing match, but Jake has admitted that he finds some of his opponent’s barbs funny.
YouTube star Paul will face his sternest test since transitioning to pro boxing early last year when he faces former ONE FC and Bellator champion Askren next month.
And despite the pair sharing insults on stage at their Las Vegas press conference on Friday, Paul did reveal that he’s happy to be sharing the promotional spotlight with the ex-Olympian.
Speaking to MMA Island at the press conference, the former Disney Channel actor said: “I appreciate that he’s willing to carry the weight of the promotion with me.
“A part of me likes Ben, a part of me thinks, ‘look, he’s funny’! I’ll give him that, he’s funny, I see his wife posting things on Instagram, and she’s funny.
“I give him credit because this fight has a lot of hype going into it. He’s putting out content and talking some s*** and making noise.
“That’s part of the reason we picked him, we knew there was going to be s*** talk going into it.”
In response, Askren couldn’t help but throw out a jab, telling us: “I really appreciate that him and his brother have somehow convinced their fans that they’re real fighters.
“It’s tremendous, that takes an act, it takes a show, he’s done that. He does it all; he’s pulling the fire truck, he’s eating the rice and chicken, s*** like that.
“He says things like ‘I’m in this for life’, that’s tremendous and I appreciate that Jake.”
The pair will finally come to blows in the main event of the inaugural Triller Fight Club event on April 17th. The show takes place in front of a select crowd of just a few hundred guests in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
There will be world class boxing from the likes of Regis Prograis and Ivan Redkach. We’ll also witness the boxing debut of UFC legend Frank Mir against former IBF World Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham.
There will also be musical interludes from the likes of Justin Bieber, TheBlack Keys, Doja Cat, Saweetie, Diplo, Major Lazer, and the exclusive world premiere of the hip hop supergroup Mt. Westmore (Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Too $hort and E-40) performing for their first time ever together.
