Marvin Vettori and Kevin Holland are set to face each other in a short-notice headliner at UFC on ABC 2 this weekend. They aren’t here to break bread, they’re here to break each other, especially after a pre-fight altercation that took place at weigh-ins Friday morning.
Bellator star Raufeon Stots, who is cornering Jordan Griffin this weekend, said he witnessed the events unfold up close. Stots reported what went down during an Instagram live session with welterweight contender, Belal Muhammad.
Stots said security had to stay in between Vettori and Holland constantly, as they shouted out insults to each other. “Supa” said that he’d never seen Holland this angry before and seemed extremely surprised to see him that way.
“[Holland] was talking to Marvin like he stole something from his mama.” said Stots. “He was mad to the mitts, I don’t know what happened… It was angry Holland, he wasn’t happy at all. I thought he was mad at me, but he was looking past me, because Marvin was behind me. He kept his eyes on Marvin the whole time. He was just watching, no happy vibe. He was on a new level.
“So then, Marvin [expletive] around, Marvin don’t give a [expletive] either, he’s Italian so ‘[expletive] you, the [expletive] you looking at, [expletive] you.”
After flapping gums at each other for a few minutes, Vettori went to another area for what was likely a physical. This is where things got a little more interesting.
“Big Mouth” would sneak into Vettori’s re-hydration area and take a roll of the Italian fighter’s ciabatta bread in retaliation.
“In the middle of the altercation, Marvin had to go in [another room] and do a physical or whatever, and Holland was still like talking [expletive] to him, he walking over to Marvin’s rehydration area, like where he keeps all his snacks and all of his [expletive].
“He pulled out, no lie bro, it was a ciabatta bun.” Stots continued. “You know Marvin is Italian, it was a ciabatta bun, I seen it. He must’ve got it from a farmer’s market in Italy. Holland was eating on Marvin’s ciabatta bread… He was eating on his ciabatta bread, no lie. It was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. [Holland] still talking shit, chewing on it.”
“Then security like snatched the bread out of Kevin’s hand, cause it wasn’t his. They knew he was doing it to like get under Marvin’s skin. It was so funny to me bro. I was dying, laughing.” Stots recalled.
The two will settle their differences on Saturday, where Vettori looks to make Holland wish he never ate his bread he brought from home.
Can you name a more effective method of mental warfare imposed in the fight game?
