With Glover Teixeira vs. Thiago Santos out of the picture, due to Teixeira testing positive for COVID-19, the UFC has lined up a new main event for UFC Vegas 10, a strawweight bout between Angela Hill vs. Michelle Waterson.

Hill vs Waterson, originally slated as the co-main event for the 205 title-eliminator, has been upgraded to the main event and the contracted 3 rounds has been changed to 5 rounds.

The move from 3 rounds to 5 rounds can be found quite surprising considering the fact many fighters are not willing to sign up for 5 rounds when they’ve been focused on fighting the usual 15 minutes for their whole fight camp.

Such examples include at least 1 fighter not wanting to do 5 rounds in main events: Zabit/Kattar, Brunson/Shabayzan, Smith/Rakic.

Michelle Waterson is familiar to going the distance for 25 minutes, she has filled the main event slot 5 times in her UFC and Invicta career. “The Karate Hottie” wishes to bounce back into the win column after 2 consecutive losses to former champions, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza.

In the opposite corner, Angela Hill looks to be the first black woman in history to headline a UFC event. The former Invicta strawweight champion is also in search of redemption as she tends to rebound from her very controversial loss to Claudia Gadelha in May. This setback snapped Hill’s 3 fight win streak.

UFC Fight Night 177 will be held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
