Yoel Romero is out of the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix.

The promotion’s electrifying new addition was scheduled to make his Bellator debut against fellow KO artist Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson to finish off the quarter finals for Bellator’s Grand Prix at 205.

Things don’t always come to plan though.

‘Rumble’ vs Romero was expected to be fireworks at Bellator 258. The fight was made in the opening round to guarantee a clash of the titans, right off the bat. But knowing this sport, cancellations are bound to happen.

On Thursday, it would be revealed that Romero had failed a pre-fight medical screening and was forced to withdraw from the historic tournament.

“Romero will become eligible to reapply for clearance to compete in the coming months,’ Bellator stated in a press release. “We look forward to seeing him make his Bellator debut in the near future. Bellator MMA will look to reschedule the highly anticipated Johnson versus Romero matchup at a future date.”

The promotion is currently looking for a replacement to face Johnson in the quarter final, which takes place a week from now (May 8th).

‘Rumble’ would break his silence following the news.

“[Heartbroken] with the news,” Johnson wrote. “But whatever the issue is, I hope Yoel gets back on his feet and [is] able to compete very soon. Sorry to the fans for the disappointment.”
