The Suga Show is Back!

Despite Alexander Volkonovski vs. Brian Ortega for the featherweight belt being cancelled from the main card due to Volkonovski testing positive for COVID-19, the card remains stacked. Before the epic main event between the two baddest men on the planet, and the tough co-main event between two top-ranked welterweights, we get to watch one of the biggest prospects in the UFC Sean O’Malley taking on the dangerous Thomas Almeida at UFC 260 this Saturday.

After being undefeated in his career for 12 straight fights, O’Malley suffered his first loss at the hands of Marlon Vera in August last year. Vera caught O’Malley with a couple of solid leg kicks, that put “Suga” down and then finished him off with some vicious ground and pound in the first round. O’Malley suffered some nerve damage in his legs, which completely shut down his ability to move.

Due to the the way in which O’Malley lost, he believes that he is still undefeated. The stoppage caused by an injury does not count as a real loss according to him. The mentally undefeated “Suga” did have an impressive run in the UFC before that, starting by stealing the show at Dana White’s Contender Series. He followed that with four straight wins including two spectacular first round knockouts.

O’Malley’s crisp striking and confidence has attracted UFC President Dana White and many fans to him, and after his viral knockout of Eddie Wineland last June, Jon Anik rightfully exclaimed that “It’s time to buy stock in Suga Sean O’Malley.” The UFC has promoted the 26 year old as the next big thing, and O’Malley will look to bounce back this Saturday after suffering the Vera loss.

However, O’Malley will face a tricky opponent in Thomas Almeida this Saturday. Almeida has fought many top ranked bantamweights in his UFC career, and despite having dropped four of his last five, he possesses a serious challenge to O’Malley. Almeida has the experience and the skill, but O’Malley is a different caliber fighter, and that is why everyone has been so high on the “Suga Show,” who is expected to once again dominate this Saturday.
