With Rafael Dos Anjos having to pull out of his bout with Islam Makhachev due to contracting COVID-19, Ali Abdelaziz, Makhachev’s Manager, offered a large sum of money to one Tony Ferguson to scrap with his client at UFC 254 on Yas Island.
Abdelaziz took to twitter and offered Ferguson $100k to show and another $100k if he defeats Makhachev, ‘El Cucuy’ was quick to deny Abdelaziz’s offer and even fired a few verbal jabs at the Dominance MMA rep.
“F**k Your Bribe Lowlife. Tell Your Client On Instagram @khabib_nurmagomedov (Since You Run His Twitter Account) # HeOwesMe200Kand20Pushups ‘Merica MF”
We last saw Ferguson compete at UFC 249 for the interim lightweight championship against Justin Gaethje, where he suffered his first TKO loss that ended his legendary 12-fight win streak which extended over 6 years.
Dana White even responded to Ali’s incredible offer
“Ali can pump up everyone’s check if he wants to.” White said. “I like it, it’s good to be rich… that Khabib money. I have not talked to Tony, but our guys have, but we wouldn’t let Ali put up the money for [it], know what I mean? We wouldn’t let that happen, I’m joking.”
White dismissing the outside-contract purse added to the overall storyline surrounding Islam and a potential opponent. With Ferguson’s ‘no’ for a answer, Islam has called for many fights with Michael Chandler who is still on standby as a Khabib-Gaethje back-up, however White has him in safe keeping just in case.
Islam went on quite a run on Twitter calling out more fighters to dance with him come October 24, including the likes of Dan Hooker and Charles Oliveira, however nothing came into fruition on such short notice.
Makhachev is currently riding a six fight win streak and hoped to continue on his upward trajectory by fighting at UFC 254, however with RDA out of of the fight and Ferguson clearly not interested, the UFC removed Islam from the stacked card altogether, says a UFC Brazil report. Claudio Silva vs James Krause has since been upgraded and replaced the matchup on the main card.
Looks like Islam Makhachev is on the hunt for an opponent once again, just outside of the original October 24th date.
What’s next for Tony Ferguson is unknown after failed talks to fight Dustin Poirier in a key lightweight bout a few weeks ago.
