Tony Ferguson is putting his foot down before his bout with Charles Oliveira, warning the Brazilian that if he misses weight by an excessive amount, they would not be competing that night.
El Cucuy took to Instagram earlier this week announcing that he has cut ties with his former nutritionist and has reverted back to his old methods, Ferguson is confident that will make weight as per usual but is not so confident that his opponent will do the same.
“At the beginning of this camp, I made a conscious decision to trust in what got me here and the results are amazing, I have been competing in athletics for over 30 years and making weight the same amount of time. Weight is good and eating right”
“I am counting on the Brazilian, Charles Oliveira and others to come in overweight like usual. So I’m calling it now. Case law. Short notice fight, Charles Oliveira will not cut weight all week and show up 3-4 pounds over weight and use the excuse of a short notice fight.”
Oliveira has missed weight in the past, but that was during his run in the featherweight division, since making the move to lightweight ‘do bronx’ has not missed weight once.
Ferguson stated that if Charles misses weight by an unacceptable amount he would pull out of the fight and encouraged fans to push Oliveira to cut the weight if they really want to see this scrap.
“If he shows up that much overweight, we are not competing,” said Ferguson “So crew, make sure you visit the kid’s page and encourage him to make weight if you want to see a fight.”
This bout may very well be a title eliminator with the winner taking on the victor of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier for the undisputed title in 2021, this bout could very well make or break either contender.
