2020 has been the year of knockouts! So far there have been 119 KO/TKO’s that have happened in 2020. Each knockout has been amazing to watch but which one deserves the title of the best? Here’s my list of the top 5 knockouts of 2020 so far.
5. Ngannou vs. Rozenstruik.
Ngannou vs Rozenstruik was an explosive 20 seconds to say the least. Rozenstruik was knocking people out left and right. In his first four UFC fights he knocked out every fighter he went against including UFC veterans Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem. Ngannou, on the other hand, had not fought for over 300 days and only lost to two people: the “Black Beast” Derrick Lewis and the champion Stipe Miocic. Needless to say the hype surrounding this fight was insane, so when Ngannou finished Rozenstruik in 20 seconds everybody lost their minds!
4. Chimaev vs Meerschaert
Rising star Khamzat Chimaev silenced all the haters on September 19th when he scored a one punch knockout over UFC Veteran, Gerald Meerschaert. Up to this point, we had only seen the wrestling side of Khamzat but in interviews leading up to the fight he told us that he was more of a striker and even compared himself to Mike Tyson. So when Khamzat knocked out Gerald in 17 seconds with only one punch we all realized that this kid is no joke.
3. O’Malley vs Wineland
Sean O’Malley is one of the UFC’s biggest draws with fans and is often compared to Mcgregor when we talk about stardom. Sean was first introduced to us through Dana White’s Contender Series with an impressive knockout over Alfred Khashakyan. Since that fight O’Malley had knocked out all his opponents but never truly faced someone who had been in the UFC for a long time, until Eddie Wineland. But, Wineland also sadly fell victim to the sugar show. Sean O’Malley knocked out Eddie Wineland with a one punch walk away KO within the first round.
2. Joaquin Buckley vs Impa Kasanganay
Newcomer Joaquin Buckley scores a jaw dropping knockout over Impa Kasanganay on October 10th. With only two fights in the UFC, Buckely lets the whole middleweight division know that he is a serious contender. Coming off of a loss to Kevin Holland earlier this year, we see Joaquin come back looking like a whole new fighter when he executes a jump spinning back kick to knockout Impa in the second round. We can only hope to see another crazy knockout like this occur in his next fight against Jordan Wright.
- Garbrandt vs Assuncao
Cody Garbrandt scores a buzzer beater knockout over Rapheal Assuncao and absolutely stuns fans. Cody Garbrandt was on a 3 fight losing streak leading up to this fight and was considered his comeback fight after taking some time off. Not only was it satisfying to see Cody back in the win column, but the knockout itself was one of the cleanest that I have ever seen. Cody has been known to have some of the fastest punches the UFC has seen and this knockout proves it. Garbrandt was scheduled to fight for the Flyweight title on November 21st but had to drop due to injury. We can only hope to see him get another shot next year when he is all healed.
