UFC announced the fight card for UFC 259 which takes place on March 6th, and we’re in for a ride, as for the seventh time in UFC history are three title fights occuring on the same card. Along with these massive fights, people like Dominick Cruz, Joseph Benavidez, Thiago Santos and Islam Makachev are also expected to fight on the card.

The main event is a champion vs champion superfight between current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and the reigning light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz as Jan looks to defend his light heavyweight strap for the first time.

This will only be the seventh time in UFC history that a champion moves into another division to challenge for a new title. History does not favour Jan as only two out of six times have the reigning champion successfully defended their belt against another champion. Adesanya will look to replicate the success of Conor McGregor, Amanda Nunes, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo before him to achieve that sweet “double champ” status.

Speaking of Amanda Nunes, the female “champ-champ” will be defending her featherweight title for the second time as she fights former Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson. This is the second time their fight is being scheduled, after Nunes pulled out of their last fight due to injury.

Nunes, also the bantamweight champion is on an 11 fight win streak, and has proved several times that she is the greatest female fighter in UFC history. She will be looking for yet another dominant performance against Anderson, who finished her last two opponents to earn her title fight.

A highly anticipated bout between bantamweight champion Petr Yan and number 1 contender Aljamain Sterling is also booked for the card. Yan will be defending the bantamweight title for the first time since he won it at UFC 251. Their fight scheduled for UFC 256 was previously cancelled, and they will now go to war to determine who is the best bantamweight fighter in the world.

Yan has defeated every man he’s ever faced, and is currently on a 7 fight win streak in the UFC. Sterling on the other hand is currently on a 5 fight win streak with wins over several top contenders to earn his way to a title shot in one of UFC’s most competitive divisions.

Top light heavyweight contenders collide as #2 ranked Thiago Santos is expected to fight #4 ranked Aleksandar Rakić in an important bout to determine the future of the light heavyweight division in a new “post Jon Jones era”.

Other fights on the card include a bantamweight bout between former two time UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Casey Kennedy. Former four time flyweight title challenger Joseph Benavidez takes on undefeated #3 Askar Askarov. Along with that, #13 lightweight figher Islam Makachev fights #15 Drew Dober.

Other scheduled fights:

Welterweight: Jake Matthews vs. Sean Brady

Flyweight: Tim Elliott vs. Jordan Espinosa

Bantamweight: Song Yadong vs. Kyler Phillips

Women’s Strawweight: Amanda Lemos vs. Lívia Renata Souza.

  1. I simply wanted to say thanks again. I do not know the things that I would have implemented in the absence of these points shared by you over that theme. It actually was an absolute scary difficulty for me personally, but taking note of the very well-written tactic you handled it forced me to jump with joy. I’m happy for the advice and thus sincerely hope you find out what an amazing job your are putting in training the mediocre ones through the use of your blog. I’m certain you haven’t got to know any of us.
