XMMA 5 has its main event.
Former Bellator Lightweight Champion Will Brooks is set to fight fellow UFC veteran Luis Peña, sources told MMA Island. The headliner matchup will take place in Columbia, South Carolina on July 23rd. This bout is slated for a catchweight at 160lbs.
Brooks has bounced back since his UFC departure in 2017. ‘Ill Will’ has gone 5-1-1 in multiple promotions and currently rides a three fight win streak.
In his last appearance, Brooks would get a TKO win in 19 seconds. His opponent Rafael Bastos broke his leg after Brooks checked his leg kick.
Brooks is no stranger to XMMA. Under the banner, Brooks beat UFC veteran Steven Siler at XMMA 2. He returns at XMMA 5 with the main event spotlight.
Luis Peña’s stint with the UFC would come to a close after being arrested last October. Peña faced battery/touch or strike/cause bodily harm” and one charge of “battery” from the October arrest. Peña ultimately pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges in June.
Run-ins with the law wouldn’t keep ‘Violent Bob Ross’ from painting pictures inside the MMA cage. Since his UFC split, Peña would pick up wins over Zach Zane and Gustavo Wurlitzer.
Peña gets a quick turnaround after his latest TKO win just last month. He gets ‘Ill Will’ as his next test at XMMA 5.
