After debuting on AXS TV with their last event, Invicta Fighting Championship has struck gold with another brilliant idea.
Earlier this week, Invicta announced they have compiled a murder’s row of Atomweight fighters to compete in a tournament. The winner of this tournament will earn a shot against the highly touted champion Alisha Zappitella.
Eight of the best atomweight fighters in the world have been chosen and given a fight date. Only time will tell who will shine and who will fold under the pressure.
Many people have discussed the possibility of Jessica Delboni having the best chance of winning, but every single one of these fighters has the potential to be a champion. Jillian DeCoursey comes in criminally underrated after giving Zappitella and Elise Reed extremely tough fights. Lindsey VanZandt also joins the pool of talented fighters with the hopes of bouncing back from her split decision loss to Zappitella. Despite the talent already discussed, this tournament still features five more fighters looking for a shot at the championship belt.
Two more Invicta veterans join the tournament with Linda Mihalec and Katie Saull. Both fighters do not get enough credit for their talents and now have the opportunity to flip the script. Although their records are not the most impressive, Mihalec and Saull will look to use their Invicta experience to make an impact. Never underestimate what can happen in an atomweight tournament fight.
The last three fighters in the tournament will be making their Invicta debut. Paulina Granados, Tabatha Watkins, and Katie Perez look to make a statement with the platform given. Do not underestimate these fighters because they all have the potential to have breakout performances.
At the end of the day, all eight fighters have a legitimate chance to win this tournament and find themselves one fight away from being the Invicta Atomweight Champion.
How the Invicta Atomweight Tournament Will Go Down
Unlike most MMA tournaments nowadays, this unbelievable tournament will take only one event to complete. This tournament will be one-round fights for the first two stages of the tournament.
The last two fighters will meet in the finale for a three-round war to determine the next opponent for the champion. Invicta will put together several tournament reserve matchups as a backup plan for injuries. Make sure you set a reminder because you do not want to be the one missing this extraordinary event.
One of the best parts about this atomweight tournament is the fact that you do not have to wait months for the event. The Phoenix Tournament: Atomweights will go down next week on Friday, June 11th.
You can watch the tournament on AXS TV in the United States and on Youtube everywhere else in the world.
