Joanna Jedrzejczyk has found herself in the MMA headlines once again.

This time in a way that will make her supporters begin to get excited. Jedrzejczyk spoke with MMA Island earlier this week with her thoughts on who she should fight next. Two names were given as her desired opponent, but the highlight of the topic was her opinion on fighting Carla Esparza.

When asked about who Rose Namajunas should fight next, Jedrzejczyk stated, “I don’t want to take anything from Carla Esparza. I don’t know, maybe me or Weili Zhang, Carla could face one of us and see if she is really on this championship level.”

This is just the latest addition of JJ making her case for a title shot upon her return and quite frankly she will always have a solid argument.

Why should Joanna Jedrzejczyk Fight For The Title?

Over her fourteen-fight UFC career, 33-year old Joanna Jedrzejczyk has fought the “who’s who” at 115 pounds.

Since joining the UFC in 2014, JJ has beaten some of the most talented women fighters globally, including Carla Esparza, Jessica Andrade, Michelle Waterson, and Claudia Gadelha.

Unfortunately, JJ has had a rough stretch of fights as she lost four of her last six to the best fighters in the division. Despite losing her last fight at UFC 248, the split decision loss to Weili Zhang is widely considered to be the greatest women’s fight of all time. JJ now looks to bounce back against the champion Namajunas or the #1 contender in Zhang.

Who Is Next For Namajunas?

The major problem with losing in the strawweight division is the lack of contenders. We find ourselves with a young and eager champion looking to defend her belt. Namajunas has few options, but she will need to decide who is most deserving for a shot at the title.

The newly crowned champion can pick between Joanna, Zhang, or Esparza. All three options have their pros and cons, but many factors do come into play.

JJ will always offer an extremely tough fight and wants to avenge her two losses to Namajunas. On the other hand, Zhang lost her belt last fight and eagerly wants to win it back. Finally, Esparza comes in as a wild factor after winning her last five fights. All three options have previously lost to Namajunas, but have the potential to avenge their losses and win the championship.

Only time will tell who Namajunas will defend her belt against, but we can be ensured the fight will be must-see action. Joanna has made her case and it is hard to say she does not deserve another title shot before she retires. It is safe to say that the UFC strawweight division has the potential to produce another fight-of-the-year candidate.
